AFIR paid €157.7 million to farmers, processors, and local authorities in rural areas between February 1 and March 14, 2025

The Agency for Financing Rural Investments (AFIR) disbursed €157.7 million (€157,713,673.23) in non-reimbursable funds to farmers, processors, and local authorities in rural areas between February 1 and March 14, 2025.

Out of the total amount, €135.3 million represents the contribution of the European Commission through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), while €22.4 million was provided by the Government of Romania.

These funds are aimed at supporting the implementation of investment projects in agriculture and rural development, as well as compensatory payments for farmers engaged in agri-environment and climate measures.

Of the total payments made by AFIR during February and the first half of March, €103.6 million were allocated to beneficiaries under the Strategic Plan 2023 – 2027, and an additional €54.1 million were transferred through the National Rural Development Program 2014 – 2022, covering both investment projects and agri-environment and climate measures.

Among the sectors that benefited from payments during this period, young farmers received over €8 million.

Beneficiaries operating in agricultural and horticultural holdings received approximately €19 million for completed investments, while processors were granted €2.5 million for investments in the agri-food processing sector.

AFIR also paid €5.2 million for investments in farm roads and irrigation infrastructure, and €3.5 million were disbursed for insurance premiums for crops, livestock, and plants.

In addition, AFIR made substantial payments totaling €104 million for agri-environment and climate measures, as well as for areas facing natural constraints.
