AFIR Allocates €226.3 Million in Non-Refundable Funds for Agricultural and Rural Development Investments
Investment projects in agriculture and rural development have received non-refundable funds totaling €226.3 million (€226,304,408) through the Agency for the Financing of Rural Investments (AFIR).
AFIR disbursed payments to 489,821 farmers, processors, entrepreneurs, and local authorities between December 2024 and January 2025. These funds are intended to reimburse investments made under financing agreements and to support environmental and climate measures.
Out of the total payments made by AFIR, €142.4 million were allocated to beneficiaries of interventions under the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, while €84 million were directed toward projects funded through the 2014-2020 National Rural Development Program (PNDR).
Targeted Sectors and Beneficiaries Young farmers received significant financial support during this period, amounting to €48.8 million. AFIR transferred €22.4 million to beneficiaries managing agricultural and horticultural holdings, while €7.3 million were allocated for investments in agricultural roads and irrigation infrastructure. Additionally, Local Action Groups received €10.6 million to foster local community development.
Fund Allocation and Payment Procedures Non-refundable European funds are granted to European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) beneficiaries only after undergoing verification procedures and authorization for payment by AFIR experts. These funds are disbursed in accordance with signed financing agreements and the commitments undertaken by beneficiaries.
