Agriculture is no longer just an economic sector; it is becoming an element of strategic security. According to analyses by the FAO and the European Commission from 2024–2025, global grain volatility, the conflict in the Black Sea region, and the reconfiguration of trade flows have transformed agriculture into a pillar of national stability.

Romania is one of the main grain producers in the EU, yet the structure of its exports remains concentrated on raw materials. This orientation generates revenues but limits the capacity to control the domestic food chain. In situations of logistical crisis or trade restrictions, dependence on external markets can become a vulnerability.

Eurostat data indicate that countries with strong domestic processing and well-managed strategic reserves have a greater capacity to adapt to external shocks. In Romania, integration along the value chain remains incomplete.

For 2026, the essential question is not only how much Romanian agriculture produces, but how much of this production is transformed into internal economic and food stability.
