For the correct information of the public, we make the following important clarifications in response to the erroneous article published on the Newsweek.ro website (https://newsweek.ro/social/1000-lei-in-plus-la-pensie-pentru-pensionarii-care-au-pamant-documentele-se-depun-luni) and subsequently picked up by other media outlets:
APIA issued a press release informing about the period during which agricultural annuitants can request the annual visa for obtaining the monetary sum representing the agricultural life annuity for the year 2024. The full press release can be read on the agency's website: https://apia.org.ro/comunicat-de-presa/vizarea-carnetelor-de-renta-viagera-agricola/.
This press release has been misinterpreted by some publications, presenting the agricultural life annuity as a financial supplement for pensioners. We clarify that the agricultural life annuity does not fall into the category of income classified as pensions.
The national agricultural life annuity program currently continues only for persons who obtained the status of annuitants before December 31, 2009. This status was granted through the Annuity Office within the State Domains Agency (ADS), with the management of existing annuitants in the program being taken over by APIA starting in 2011.
The current legislative framework no longer allows for acquiring the status of an agricultural annuitant.
The agricultural life annuity represents the sum of money paid to the agricultural annuitant who transfers ownership or leases out extra-urban agricultural land they own or enters into an agreement with an investor, in compliance with the provisions of Article 4, paragraph (1^3) of Law no. 1/2000 regarding the restitution of property rights over agricultural and forestry lands, requested under the provisions of the Land Fund Law no. 18/1991 and Law no. 169/1997, with subsequent amendments and completions, ensuring a guaranteed lifelong income source supported by the state.
