Premium beef, sourced from specialized breeds, is gaining popularity on the Romanian market, driven by demand from restaurants and consumers willing to pay for high-quality products. According to a USDA report, demand for premium beef in Europe grew by 12% in 2024.

In Romania, premium beef production is still limited, but imports cover the growing demand. The value of premium beef imports exceeded €50 million in 2024, with Poland, Italy, and Germany being the main sources.

Consumers associate premium beef with a distinct taste, tenderness, and food safety. At the same time, fine dining restaurants promote exclusive menus based on this type of meat, strengthening its image.

For Romanian farmers, developing premium beef production can represent an opportunity for export and income diversification. Accessing European funds and joining cooperatives can accelerate the entry of this niche segment onto the market.
