For many small and medium-sized agricultural operations, investing in modern agricultural machinery can be financially challenging. In such situations, farmers often rely on agricultural service providers to carry out field operations.
The cost of these services varies depending on the region, the size of the farm, and the type of agricultural work required. In recent years, the increase in fuel prices and machinery costs has led to a significant rise in tariffs for mechanized agricultural services.
In Romania, basic operations such as plowing or deep tillage (scarification) can frequently cost between €60 and €100 per hectare, depending on the depth of the work and the type of machinery used. Seedbed preparation and sowing may add another €40–€70 per hectare.
Crop protection operations, carried out using spraying equipment or phytosanitary treatments, can generate additional costs of approximately €15–€25 per hectare for each intervention.
If a farm relies on external services for most agricultural operations, the total cost of mechanization can often exceed €200–€300 per hectare in a single agricultural season.
