In all livestock sectors, feeding represents the main determinant of production costs. Regardless of species, the share of feed in the cost structure ranges between 50% and 70%, which means that any fluctuation in cereal prices is directly transferred into farm profitability.

In dairy farms, the daily feeding cost per animal can exceed EUR 4–6, depending on the ration used and the level of productivity. At a production of 20–30 liters/day, feeding generates a cost of approximately EUR 0.20–0.30 per liter, representing the dominant component of the total cost.

In the pig sector, the feed conversion ratio is a critical indicator. With a consumption of approximately 2.5–3 kg of feed per kg of weight gain and a feed price of EUR 0.25–0.35/kg, feeding costs can reach EUR 0.75–1 per kg live weight. Small differences in conversion can significantly influence the economic outcome.

In the poultry sector, feed efficiency is even more important. A feed conversion ratio of 1.6–1.8 kg of feed per kg of growth is considered standard, and any deviation directly affects the farm’s margin. Under these conditions, feed quality control and recipe optimization become essential for maintaining competitiveness.
