According to FutureFarming, tire manufacturer Continental will soon introduce a chemical-free method for weed control using high-pressure hot water.

Continental provides not only tires but also precision agriculture solutions, such as weed control using high-pressure hot water.

The system works as follows: each weeding element contains cameras and spherical joints with a small hole in them.

The cameras detect the weeds, and intelligent software maps the weeds and their size. Then, a pulsed jet of high-pressure hot water (85-95 degrees Celsius) kills the weed plants.

The spherical joints ensure that the high-pressure jet sprays the water in the correct direction with enormous precision. Depending on the size or thickness of the weed plants, the spraying takes more or less time.

The company supplies this chemical-free weeding system to machine manufacturers. The system can be seen at the Agritechnica trade fair. However, Continental is not yet disclosing the specific manufacturer.
