According to the latest report published by Eurostat, in 2023, the value of agricultural trade (imports and exports) between the EU and the rest of the world reached 410.9 billion euros, 13.5 billion euros less than in 2022 (424.4 billion euros), corresponding to a decrease of 3.2%.
The EU exported agricultural products worth EUR 228.6 billion and imported EUR 182.3 billion, generating a surplus of EUR 46.3 billion. While the value of exports remained stable between 2022 and 2023, there was a noticeable decrease in the value of imports (-6.8%).
Between 2013 and 2023, the EU's agricultural trade increased by 56.2% (from EUR 263.1 billion to EUR 410.9 billion), equivalent to an average annual growth of 4.6%. During this period, exports grew faster (4.7%) than imports (4.4%).
Regarding export partners, the United Kingdom was the main partner, with a 22% share in EU agricultural exports (equivalent to EUR 48.6 billion), followed by the United States (12%; EUR 27.5 billion), China (6%; EUR 13.5 billion), Switzerland (5%; EUR 12.1 billion), Japan (3%; EUR 7.2 billion), and Russia (3%; EUR 6.6 billion).
