Feed grain production remains a critical indicator for the economic stability of livestock farms. Recent data show that the 2024 maize harvest recorded significant regional variations, influenced by rainfall distribution and soil fertility. Yields ranged between 4.5 and 7.8 t/ha, with some counties exceeding 8 t/ha, while southeastern areas remained below 4 t/ha due to drought.

At European level, maize production remained within parameters comparable to previous years, but lot quality varies depending on protein and starch content. These differences directly affect feed conversion efficiency on livestock farms. Feed wheat in Romania achieves average yields of 4–5.5 t/ha, providing a relatively stable base for domestic demand.

Farms that produce a significant share of their feed grains in-house are advantaged under current market conditions. The gap between delivery prices and production costs directly influences economic margins, while storage capacity becomes a strategic factor, reducing dependence on seasonal purchases. In 2025, cereal market dynamics and climate change will continue to shape competitiveness in the livestock sector.
