Ukraine's Agricultural Exports Increased in February

Ukraine's agricultural exports grew in February, driven by increased shipments of wheat and soybeans, which offset lower exports of corn, rapeseed, and sunflower complex products, according to customs data reported by ArgusInside.

Decline in Danube River Exports

Ukraine exported approximately 4.36 million tons of grains, oilseeds, and by-products in February, up from 4.06 million tons in January but significantly below the 7.34 million tons shipped a year earlier.

Shipments from the deep-sea ports of Pivdennyi-Odesa-Chornomorsk totaled 3.77 million tons in the reporting month, accounting for about 86% of Ukraine's total agricultural exports.

Agricultural exports from Ukraine’s Danube River ports continued to decline, reaching only 183,073 tons in February, the lowest level since May 2022.

Grains

Ukraine shipped 3.4 million tons of grains in February, up from 3.14 million tons in January but down from 5.62 million tons a year earlier.

Corn exports slightly declined to 2.16 million tons in February from 2.25 million tons in January and 2.92 million tons a year earlier. Spain was the largest buyer of Ukrainian corn in February, followed by Italy, Egypt, and Turkey, according to export customs declarations.

In contrast, wheat exports increased to 1.16 million tons last month from 822,022 tons in January, though still well below the 2.5 million tons a year earlier. Spain remained the largest buyer, while Egypt, Italy, Algeria, and Tunisia were among the top five importers.

Barley exports rose to 74.099 tons last month from 61.689 tons in January but were lower than the 206.057 tons a year earlier. Libya was the main buyer, followed by Cyprus and Israel.

Ukraine exported 965,486 tons of oilseeds, vegetable oils, and meal in February, up from 928,100 tons in January but below the 1.72 million tons recorded a year earlier.

Soybean exports surged to 391,201 tons last month from 193,966 tons in January and 284,571 tons a year earlier. Turkey was the largest buyer of Ukrainian soybeans, followed by Egypt and the Netherlands.

Ukraine’s rapeseed exports declined to 30,659 tons last month from 101,199 tons in January and 259,321 tons a year earlier. This brought the country’s total rapeseed exports to nearly 3 million tons since the beginning of the 2024-25 marketing year (July-June).

Sunflower seed (SFS) exports dropped to just 769 tons in February from 19,968 tons the previous month and 34,584 tons a year earlier.

Sunflower oil (SFO) exports fell to 290,983 tons in February from 339,976 tons in January and 590,987 tons a year earlier. Italy was the top destination for Ukrainian SFO in February, while Spain, the Netherlands, India, and Turkey also ranked among the top five.
