Romania is one of the main poultry meat producers in Central and Eastern Europe, with an annual production of over 1.4 million tons in 2024, according to Eurostat. Exports exceeded 300,000 tons, directed mainly toward EU countries, but also to markets in the Middle East and Africa.

The average export price for Romanian poultry meat was €2,100/ton in 2024, compared to the European average of €2,400/ton. This difference is mainly due to higher production costs and welfare standards that require additional investments.

Vertically integrated farms, which own slaughterhouses and processing units, are the most competitive, managing to market their products in premium segments. In contrast, small and medium-sized farms remain dependent on the domestic market, where competition is intense and profit margins are lower.

For 2025, exports are expected to grow by 5–7%, driven by global demand. Financial support through the CAP Strategic Plan (PNS) and investments in international certifications (IFS, BRC) could strengthen Romania’s position on the European poultry meat market.
