Rest time is an essential parameter for livestock performance, directly influencing metabolism, immunity, and production. In dairy cattle farms, animals need 11–13 hours of rest per day to maintain optimal production levels. Reducing rest time by one hour can lead to a drop in production of 0.7–1 liter per cow per day.
In pigs and poultry, the lack of adequate resting areas or frequent disturbances increases stress levels and affects growth rates. Chronic stress leads to inefficient energy use and increases susceptibility to disease. The quality of rest is influenced by stocking density, microclimate, and bedding type.
Farms that optimize resting spaces and reduce disturbances achieve greater production stability and lower levels of health issues. For 2025, rest time must be treated as a productive factor.
