Agricultural Land Improvement National Agency (ANIF) has begun the irrigation campaign in Olt County, with crops such as wheat, rapeseed, barley, and alfalfa being irrigated so far.
At the request of the Water Users Associations (WUAs) within the irrigation schemes of Dăbuleni Potelu Corabia, which manages an area of 10,928 hectares, and Sadova Corabia, with an area of 19,050 hectares, a total of 490 hectares of wheat, 343 hectares of rapeseed, 980 hectares of alfalfa, and 350 hectares of barley have been irrigated.
"The irrigation system is continuously being improved, and we have ongoing works throughout the country to develop this sector, which is crucial for future performance, considering the increasing impact of climate change in Romania," said Minister Petre DAEA.
The introduction of water into the conveyance channels that supply water for irrigation is done according to specific requests based on firm orders, following the conclusion of multiannual or seasonal contracts.
As new water requests are received from beneficiaries with whom ANIF has irrigation contracts or as new contracts are concluded, the National Agency for Land Improvement will continue to put new conveyance systems into operation. By the end of March, the campaign will be expanded to five other counties based on the requests received.
