Stock management is becoming an essential component for modern farms, regardless of their size or production profile. According to the European Commission – Farm Economics Report 2024, losses associated with improper storage account for between 5 and 12% of production value at EU level. Romania falls within this range, according to INS data, especially in farms that lack modern infrastructure.

In the crop sector, losses occur due to insufficient grain drying, infestations, improper ventilation, and high temperatures in silos. DG AGRI indicates that farms using automated systems for temperature and humidity monitoring significantly reduce these losses.

In livestock farming, feed stock management is equally important. According to EFSA, feed quality deteriorates rapidly under improper storage conditions, affecting intake, animal health, and productive performance. Farms using digital platforms to monitor feed stocks can anticipate critical periods and adjust rations or supply in time.

The CAP Strategic Plan 2023–2027 supports investments in modern storage facilities, energy-efficient silos, digital management systems, and infrastructure that minimises losses. For Romanian farms, coordinated investments in storage reduce economic risks and ensure production continuity.

Stock management is no longer a secondary administrative function; it has become a critical component of farm performance.
