Romanian agricultural logistics is becoming a critical factor for farm competitiveness. According to Eurostat (Agri-Environmental Indicators, 2024), post-harvest losses in Central European countries frequently range between 8% and 15%, depending on crop type and the technologies used. Romania falls within the same range, underscoring the need for investment in storage, sorting and efficient flow management.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s 2024 PNS Implementation Report, modernising agricultural storage and on-farm infrastructure is a key priority under interventions DR-20 and DR-22. Eligible investments include cold-storage facilities, technological halls, fodder-storage platforms, sorting systems and equipment for handling livestock products.
In the livestock sector, optimising internal flows is closely linked to efficient feeding and herd management. DG AGRI analyses (2024) show that farms implementing automated weighing, dosing and monitoring systems reduce technological losses and uncontrolled consumption, with direct benefits for overall costs.
Logistics modernisation is more than a technical upgrade—it is a decisive factor for reducing losses, stabilising stocks and increasing product quality. Farms that align their infrastructure with current European market standards will be better positioned to capitalise on production and remain competitive in an evolving sector.
