Beneficiaries of European funds for agriculture and rural development received a new payment installment in their bank accounts, amounting to a total of 88.12 million euros (431.65 million lei). Through the payments made, the Agency for Financing Rural Investments (AFIR) reimbursed the expenses incurred in investment projects, as well as those related to environmental and climate measures.
Of the entire amount paid, 74.88 million euros represent funding granted from the EAFRD – European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, and the difference of 13.24 million euros is covered by the National Budget.
The majority of the payments, specifically 23.5 million euros, were made for investments in agricultural and horticultural holdings (through sub-measures 4.1 – agricultural holdings and 4.1a – horticultural holdings). For public utility investments (through sub-measures 4.3 – agricultural, forestry, and irrigation infrastructure, 7.2 – basic rural infrastructure, and 7.6 – heritage protection), AFIR made payments amounting to 11.1 million euros.
Additionally, a significant amount, more precisely 8.1 million euros, went towards reimbursing premiums for crop, animal, and plant insurance (sub-measure 17.1). In this payment stage, Local Action Groups received over 11 million euros for expenses incurred in developing local communities through the LEADER axis.
For environmental and climate measures, AFIR made payments to farmers exceeding 23 million euros on May 31, 2024.
Non-reimbursable public funds are granted following the verification and authorization for payment by AFIR experts of the expenses incurred, based on payment requests received from public and private beneficiaries of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), in accordance with the concluded financing contracts and the commitments made.
