Invisible losses on the farm: where the results go without being seen

In many livestock farms, performance does not decline suddenly, but erodes gradually through small, daily losses that are difficult to observe. They do not appear in direct records, but are reflected in lower production, higher consumption, and non-uniform batches.

In dairy farms, differences of 0.5–1 liter per head per day often go unnoticed, but at herd level they translate into significant losses over the course of a month. In the swine sector, a reduction in daily weight gain by 50–70 grams leads to delays in the production cycle and additional costs.

In poultry farms, slightly higher-than-normal mortality or feed conversion that is a few percentage points lower are examples of losses that do not immediately attract attention, but affect the final result.

The problem is that these losses do not have a single cause. They arise from the accumulation of details: uneven access to feed, unstable microclimate, inconsistent routines, or delayed responses.

High-performing farms do not only eliminate major problems, but continuously reduce these small losses. The difference is made by details repeated every day.
