Productivity is one of the key indicators used to assess the economic performance of agriculture. In the European Union, the level of agricultural productivity is influenced by technology, the size of farms, and the level of investment in agricultural infrastructure.

According to data published by Eurostat and the OECD, labor productivity in Romanian agriculture remains significantly lower compared to the European Union average.

One of the factors explaining this situation is the structure of agricultural holdings. Romania accounts for approximately one third of the total number of farms in the European Union, yet most of them are small-scale holdings with a low level of capitalization.

Land fragmentation and limited access to modern technologies affect the economic efficiency of agricultural production. At the same time, large commercial farms that use modern technologies and advanced agricultural management systems can achieve productivity levels comparable to those in other European countries.

In the long term, increasing the productivity of Romanian agriculture will depend on the modernization of farms, investments in agricultural technologies, and the development of integrated agri-food chains that allow a higher level of valorization of agricultural production.
