Reaction time on the farm: the difference between control and loss

In livestock operations, most problems do not emerge suddenly, but develop in stages. The difference between an efficient farm and a vulnerable one lies in the speed of response to the first warning signs.

A decline in intake, slight behavioral changes or temperature fluctuations are often ignored in the initial phase. In the poultry sector, a deviation of just 1–2°C can affect uniformity within a few days. In dairy farms, changes in intake are reflected in production with a delay, but the impact is direct.

The data available on the farm are sufficient for rapid intervention: daily intake, production, temperature and humidity. The problem is not a lack of information, but the lack of immediate response.

Farms that operate predictably are those where decisions are made the same day, not after the effects have accumulated. Speed of response becomes an operational indicator just as important as production.
