Batch uniformity: the indicator that shows whether the farm is under control

Differences between animals within the same batch are, in most cases, the first sign that something is not functioning properly on the farm. They do not appear in financial reports, but they are visible every day, in the barn or housing unit.

In the poultry sector, variations in temperature or lighting create noticeable growth differences from the very first days. In pig farms, unequal access to water and feed leads to weight disparities that can reach 15–20 kg by the end of the production cycle.

In dairy farms, non-uniform groups complicate overall management: rations become harder to adjust, production becomes variable, and animals respond differently to the same conditions.

The issue is not singular, but rather the accumulation of multiple small factors: ventilation, stocking density, scheduling, access. Each minor deviation contributes to increasing differences between animals.

Well-managed farms are easy to recognize: animals look the same, grow at the same rate, and respond similarly. Uniformity is not a random outcome, but a clear indicator of control over the entire system.
