Ventilation: the technical variable that directly influences consumption and conversion

The operation of a ventilation system does not guarantee its efficiency. In practice, the difference is determined by air distribution within the space, not by the mere existence of airflow.

In pig housing, areas with higher gas concentrations or stagnant air reduce feed intake and affect daily weight gain. Differences can reach 50–80 grams per day between animals housed in the same facility, depending on positioning.

In poultry production, temperature variations of 1–2°C between areas of the house lead to bird redistribution and unequal access to feed and water. The result is reduced uniformity and impaired feed conversion.

Parameters that appear stable at a general level may conceal significant local variations. For this reason, proper evaluation is not based only on central sensors, but also on direct observation: animal distribution, behavior and avoided zones. Ventilation optimization does not necessarily require new investments, but rather fine adjustments and constant monitoring.
