Advanced automation at the 60,000-square-meter GXO center helps zooplus efficiently receive and process thousands of pet products for customers across Europe.
Zooplus SE, Europe's leading online platform for pet products, and GXO Logistics, Inc., the world's largest contract logistics provider, today announced the modernization of zooplus' technology-based logistics network with the addition of a new supply center.
The facility in Bor, Czech Republic, adds a 60,000-square-meter order delivery unit and leverages advanced automation solutions. GXO's use of state-of-the-art technology in the new logistics center will allow zooplus to increase its daily delivery capacity, provide faster delivery times to customers, and strengthen its strong local presence in European markets. The opening of the Bor facility marks a significant milestone in the partnership between zooplus and GXO.
Joost Bous, Chief Operations Officer at zooplus, said:
"The new distribution center in the Czech Republic perfectly complements our existing logistics infrastructure and takes it to the next level. Working with our trusted partner GXO, we have access to customized technological and automation solutions, enabling us to respond more rapidly and personally to different regional consumer needs.
This way, we enhance our value-added offering for the pet parent community and take another step forward in our journey to create the most modern and convenient destination for pets in Europe.
Ultimately, we are developing our logistics network towards a future marked by innovation and a firm commitment to customer-centric values."
Richard Cawston, President of GXO Europe, added: "We are excited to expand our partnership with zooplus in Europe. Since 2018, we have helped zooplus reduce delivery costs in the Iberian Peninsula.
With our new facility in Bor, equipped with top-of-the-line industry technologies, we are strategically positioned to support zooplus' growth in Europe, improving access to major markets. We look forward to building on our established partnership and continuously improving our services."
Over 200,000 parcels delivered to customers per week
Over the past five years, GXO's warehousing operations for zooplus in Spain have nearly tripled in terms of product diversity and delivery volume. This successful partnership laid the groundwork for the state-of-the-art, highly automated GXO facility in Bor, which is capable of handling an extensive range of 14,000 pet food and other products, preparing approximately 36 parcels per minute, and shipping over 200,000 orders weekly, efficiently supporting the growing demand of zooplus customers in Central and Western Europe. The Bor logistics center handles zooplus' entire product range.
Environmental and sustainability commitment through innovation
To meet the highest environmental, social, and ethical standards of zooplus and GXO, the Bor facility is BREEAM-certified and features LED lighting and solar panels to enhance energy efficiency. Environmentally friendly practices extend to reducing, and in some cases eliminating, paper and plastic packaging materials inside parcels.
The facility uses automated height-setting machines for nearly 99% of the cardboard boxes produced, not only reducing package sizes but also maximizing transportation efficiency, while simultaneously minimizing carbon emissions.
Additionally, the facility promotes sustainability through the use of an intelligent battery charging system and advanced queuing processes during battery handling, reducing the total number of batteries required for handling equipment.
Ergonomic workflow and community involvement
The Bor facility employs nearly 200 local residents. With the optimal use of advanced automation, the unit not only speeds up work processes but also prioritizes the well-being of employees by implementing ergonomic solutions.
As part of a firm commitment to positively impact the communities where its team members live, local animal shelters are also supported through donations of zooplus products. This effort reflects the shared values of zooplus and GXO regarding community and environmental well-being.
The new logistics center in Bor has already begun operations and was officially launched through an opening ceremony attended by the leadership teams of zooplus and GXO.
