The changes to Romania's Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the period 2023-2027 have been approved by the European Commission.

The revision proposal resulted from consultations with economic and social partners, representing a crucial step in adapting to the current needs of the agricultural sector.

The consolidated Strategic Plan will improve conditions for accessing direct payments, both for the crop and livestock sectors. Among the most significant changes in the crop sector are the definition of an active farmer applicable to direct payment beneficiaries and the flexibility of conditions provided by GAEC 6 – Minimum soil cover to prevent bare soil in the most sensitive periods.

To meet the needs and requests of farmers in the livestock sector, changes to existing schemes for the cattle and sheep sector have been proposed, along with a new intervention to support cattle breeders: coupled support for income – silage corn.

These changes reflect the commitment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) to promote modern, sustainable agriculture adapted to climate change, thereby contributing to strengthening Romania's position within the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy.

MADR thanks the partners involved in this extensive consultation process and reaffirms constant support for the sustainable development of the national agricultural sector.
