The European Commission welcomes the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Romania and the Government of Ukraine, which will further enhance the capacity of solidarity corridors, especially considering the damage suffered by Ukraine's transportation infrastructure as a result of Russia's aggression.

Romania plays a crucial role in the functioning of solidarity corridors and collaborates constructively with all parties involved, including through the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Corridor Coordination Platform. The Commission encourages this close cooperation between EU member states and Ukraine.

The Commission continues to support the implementation of EU-Ukraine solidarity corridors and the Ukrainian action plan for the export of Ukrainian cereals, especially by facilitating cross-border links and transport operations.

The improvement of the border crossing between Ukraine and Romania, as envisaged by this memorandum, will not only serve Ukraine's immediate import and export needs but also firmly anchor it in the EU transportation space.

Funding is already available from the EU budget, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), while the future Ukraine Mechanism will further contribute to the reconstruction and development of Ukraine's transportation infrastructure and its connections with the EU.
